MEET DR. GARY SAKS

Chiropractor in Gaylord and Bellaire : Dr. Gary Saks

dr_gary_saks_180.jpgI am still amazed at all the conditions that chiropractic care can help! It surprised me when I was a patient, but even more so when I became a doctor.

The reason I became a chiropractor was that as a patient I was impressed at what chiropractic did for me. I had a headache that lasted for six months. I went to a chiropractor and in very short order, the headache disappeared. Rarely do I have them now, and that was over 40 years ago!

Chiropractic Education

I graduated from Wayne State University as a teacher in 1972.  That turned out to be a very good base because I love to teach about being healthy.  I graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1976. I received the traditional chiropractic education coming away with the Palmer Package of adjusting techniques. However, while attending Palmer I developed a passion for Applied Kinesiology (AK) and clinical nutrition. In fact, I was the Founder and President of the Palmer Applied Kinesiology Club. Currently, I am board qualified in AK. I learned from the creator of the technique, Dr. George Goodheart, I have logged in over 1000 hours of post graduate education in the realm of clinical nutrition and am now certified in Nutrition Response Testing.

The Key to Healthy Living

I feel that our current health model is going down the wrong road. Being healthy isn't just about getting rid of symptoms quickly and assuming that you have fixed the cause of the problem.  There are a lot of ways to help the body to heal itself.  When that occurs, you have achieved a level of health that is not dependent on medications.  Once that occurs, health actually comes down to a day by day, moment by moment decision on how we conduct our lives and treat our bodies.

The key to living healthy is to prepare your body to run in an optimal state. Chiropractic care, proper nutrition and exercise are just a few of the essential components for well being. Chiropractic care is the largest health care delivery system that doesn't use drugs or surgery. It is gentle and works in harmony with the body, and does not cause side effects.

On A Personal Note

My time outside of the office is spent cutting firewood, cross-country skiing or working in the garden.  I am a devoted practitioner of Yoga and meditation. I enjoy backpacking in remote places like Alaska and Isle Royale.

I live the lifestyle I ask my patients to follow. We take into consideration a person’s overall health, the way they eat, what level of activity is within their daily practice, and their mental and emotional health.

See How Chiropractic Can Help You

As a Chiropractor in Gaylord and Bellaire with 37 years of experience, I have had the opportunity to work with a large variety of people and conditions. I continue to be impressed with how the body can heal itself given the right help from the outside and the right efforts from the patient.

I consider myself an excellent listener and hope I get the opportunity to meet you in person and discuss your specific health challenge. Give our office a call.  We have offices in Gaylord and Bellaire.

MEET DR. LINDSAY HIGGINS

Growing up in Northern Michigan, Dr. Lindsay Higgins learned at a young age that Chiropractic was a crucial part of an active lifestyle.  At the age of  twelve, she had her first adjustment after a sports injury in basketball.  Since  then, she has utilized Chiropractic for more than aches and pains from sports, but also general health and to promote optimal function and performance.

She attended chiropractic school at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA where she was also given the opportunity to go to Madagascar on a clinic abroad trip.  She was able to teach people about Chirporactic and adjust people from 2 months old to 84 years old.  She visited villages in the north and south, as well as an orphanage, and a Leper colony to provide treatment for many different conditions.

After graduating in 2011, Dr. Higgins spent her first year practicing in Galway, Ireland in a family practice setting.  She moved back to Michigan with her husband', Declan in March of 2012, and currently lives in Gaylord with their daughter Lillian and their 2 dogs, Matti Jo and Punkin.  Dr. Higgins joined Saks Wellness Center in September 2012 and couldn't be happier serving the Northern Michigan community in the Alpine country.  In practice, Dr. Higgins treats children, adults, athletes, elderly, and anyone else she can help.
